The Dundry Slopes Herbal Medicine Project took place during the spring and summer of  2006 with some walks and workshops in South Bristol.
The guided walks were in over 80 acres of fantastic green space - the Hartwood acres and the Northern Slopes of Dundry. These were be followed by workshops at the headquarters of CSV Environments at Queens Road in Bishopsworth. Participants learnt how to identify useful medicinal and food plants growing in the wild, rules for harvesting, and how to use them. The project was sponsored by the Department for Education and Skills’ Community Champions programme, working through the Scarman Trust.

Our first herb walk took place on Dundry Slopes in the autumn of 2005, led by Max Drake. You can download a handout of plants we found growing with some interesting information here:

Dates for the walks and workshops :
Sunday June 4th 11.00 - 5.00
Sunday July 9th  11.00 - 5.00
Sunday Sept 10th 11.00 - 5.00

The general idea of the walks was see how the habitat changed from June to September and to learn to identify useful medicinal plants. In the workshops we did some practical stuff with herbs, such as making creams and lotions, tinctures and teas - and discussed in more depth the principles of western herbal medicine.

The walks and workshops were open to anyone who lives in the Bristol area. For  information about future workshops contact  info@maxdrake.co.uk
The Dundry Slopes Project was a tremendous success which has led to the creation of the Urban Fringe Pharmacy project.
